7/9/2014: Tine has won the Carglass Cologne Triathlon Weekend half distance event. Tine took the title in 04:22:13. Fellow Belgian Eva Kennis (04:35:15) and Grada Boschker (The Netherlands; 04:35:41) rounded out the podium.
Tine only decided last week she was going to wrap up her season in Cologne. After moving to a new home and a bout of food poisoning that forced her out of Ironman Mount-Tremblant a few weeks ago, she was unsure of her fitness. That doubt soon proved unfounded. During the swim, Tine ended up in the chase group. She started the bike leg second, only a minute behind the fastest swimmer. Feeling strong, Tine quickly made her move. After 40k, she was more than three minutes ahead of the pack. Going into T2, she had a lead of more than nine minutes. In a controlled half marathon, Tine was able to extend that lead by a few minutes for a comfortable victory.
Tine reflected back on a fitting end to a great 2014, “I feel good about 2014. There were quite a few lows, but with my fourth Ironman Nice victory and second place in the Ironman 70.3 Aix-en-Provence and Challenge Rimini, I reclaimed my place among the best. In 2013 I became a mom, in 2014 I became a top triathlete once again. That is a great combination going into 2015.”
